Killer' of suspected paedophile TV host Scott Rogers dies after plug pulled on life support

The suspected killer of a British TV host has died in hospital after the “plug was pulled” on his life support machine.

Police have revealed that Matthew Hodgkinson died in Our Lady of the Lake medical centre in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, just after midday on Friday.

Investigators believe Mr Hodgkinson, 36, shot and killed 52-year-old Scott Rogers before turning the gun on himself.

Mr Rogers, who was Mr Hodgkinson’s father-in-law and ex-lover, died in the attack on August 27, but his suspected killer survived but was in a critical condition on life support.

Speaking to a local news channel, Sheriff Brett Stassi revealed their main suspect had died and that officers were now investigating who gave the instruction to turn off the life support machine.

He said: “(I) still have questions to be asked about the procedure that was done.”

News of the death comes after it was revealed police are investigating sex abuse allegations made against the British ex-pat.

Suffolk Police said they had received a “handful of calls” from people claiming they were sexually abused by the TV presenter.

The abuse is alleged to have happened in the mid-1990s at a dance academy Mr Rogers ran in Bury St Edmunds. Investigators now believe he may have been continuing to abuse children in the US.

Mr Hodgkinson was married to Mr Rogers’ daughter Kimmie but lived at the victim’s home with him.

Sheriff Stassi revealed officers had been examining the relationships in the case.

He said: “It looks like he was continuing with what he was doing [in the UK] and that’s what leaves a bad taste in people’s mouths.”

Local news channel WBRZ said deputies in the case were awaiting results of Mr Hodgkinson’s autopsy before closing the case.

Al-Jazeera demands Egypt release four journalists

Qatar-based broadcaster Al-Jazeera has demanded the release of four of its journalists seized by Egyptian police in Cairo at the weekend. They include its Cairo bureau chief Mohamed Fadel Fahmy and former BBC correspondent Peter Greste. The journalists had held illegal meetings with the Muslim Brotherhood, the interior ministry said. Al-Jazeera said it had been "subject to harassment" although not officially banned from working in Egypt. There has been a crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood since the army ousted President Mohammed Morsi in July. Last week it was declared a terrorist group. In the past six months, more than 1,000 pro-Morsi protesters have been killed in clashes with security forces, and thousands of Brotherhood supporters have been arrested, including the majority of its leadership. A court will hear a case to disband the Brotherhood's political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), on 15 February. 'Arbitrary' The four journ...
