Manchester United target Fabio Coentrao told he can leave Real Madrid for £12million

Available: Fabio Coentrao is up for grabs this January - could United make another move? Elisa Estrada Manchester United have been offered another chance to sign Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao.

United missed out on a loan deal for the Portugal left-back in the summer because of complications with the paperwork. But Coentrao has played only twice for Real this season and has been told by coach Carlo Ancelotti he can leave during the transfer window to protect his place in Portugal’s World Cup squad.

And his agent, Jorge Mendes, was last night trying to discover whether David Moyes is interested in a deal that would cost the champions £12million. United are in the market for a left-back after having two bids for Leighton Baines rejected by Everton in the summer.

Coentrao, 25, is four years younger than Baines – who is expected to take his Everton contract into its final year this summer – and has more experience at both Champions League and international level.
