Atletico Madrid plot late move to snatch Mohamed Salah from Liverpool, Man Utd and Spurs

ATLETICO MADRID are set to make a late move to dash Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham's hopes of signing Basel star Mohamed Salah this month.

Salah has been backed to complete a move to the Premier League this week by former USA and Egypt manger Bob Bradley with Liverpool leading the chase for the winger's signature.

The Egyptian international, who netted twice against Chelsea in the Champions League during this season's group phase, has also attracted the interest of both United and Spurs.

Atletico have been keeping tabs on the £20m-rated ace and reports in Switzerland suggest Diego Simeone is planning a late move to snatch Salah from the clutches of the Premier League trio.

Simeone's side have enjoyed a sensational campaign and remain level on points with league leaders Barcelona only being kept in second place by virtue of a lower goal difference.

The former Argentina international is not ready to rest on his laurels and wants to secure Salah as he aims to end Barcelona and Real Madrid's dominance as La Liga champions.

But it remains to be seen whether Atletico's late move will be successful with Salah's former coach revealing earlier this week that a transfer to England is very much on the cards.

I was saying yesterday that in Egypt, a great success story in the last two years is a young player called Mohamed Salah," Bradley said.

"He left and we helped him to leave Egypt first to FC Basel, and from what I read and hear, in the coming days you will see his name again because I think it will be a big transfer to a Premiership team."

It has also been mooted that Russian club Zenit St Petersburg are monitoring the situation with a view to making a mega-offer to trump all of Salah's potential suitors.

Al-Jazeera demands Egypt release four journalists

Qatar-based broadcaster Al-Jazeera has demanded the release of four of its journalists seized by Egyptian police in Cairo at the weekend. They include its Cairo bureau chief Mohamed Fadel Fahmy and former BBC correspondent Peter Greste. The journalists had held illegal meetings with the Muslim Brotherhood, the interior ministry said. Al-Jazeera said it had been "subject to harassment" although not officially banned from working in Egypt. There has been a crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood since the army ousted President Mohammed Morsi in July. Last week it was declared a terrorist group. In the past six months, more than 1,000 pro-Morsi protesters have been killed in clashes with security forces, and thousands of Brotherhood supporters have been arrested, including the majority of its leadership. A court will hear a case to disband the Brotherhood's political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), on 15 February. 'Arbitrary' The four journ...
